The Power of Kundalini
The power of Kundalini is the evolutionary force, residing at the base of the spine. When the Kundalini is awakened, it rises through and vitalizes all the chakras present in a human body, thus bringing spiritual knowledge, mystical vision, psychic powers, and finally enlightenment. When the power of Kundalini rises through the different chakras and reaches the highest one, the practitioner enjoys the bliss of Samadhi.
Kundalini Yoga is the technology, art and science enabling a person to allow and utilize his or her own power of creativity for the faster effect in healing, consciousness and other goals. Shakti denotes force, power or energy and is the Hindu concept or personification of God`s female aspect. Shakti is sometimes referred to as `The Divine Mother` and represents the active, dynamic principles of feminine power.
The power of Kundalini involves two kinds of energy. One which is the air energy, which is referred to as chi, or ki, or prana, and then there`s also the Kundalini Shakti energy or the energy of cosmic consciousness. This Shakti otherwise lies inactive in the spine`s lower end, and is frequently pictured as a sleeping, coiled serpent. Thus, the power of Kundalini needs to be awakened, either by yogic techniques or impulsively, and arises to merge with the prana or the Universal Energy, thus empowering the person with awareness out of ordinary sensation and siddhis (powers) away from mundane capability.
If the sadhak has his third eye opened, he can actually see the prana particles in the air. There are lots of tiny swirling comets that seem to wink in and out of existence in all the materials around us. These tiny swirling comets are prana particles. This is the reason why one feels good in the forest, because of the chi of trees, and that`s why we need the trees. The prana or Chi energy needs to be directed and exaggerated by human thought. One can change it, direct it and also alter it. The power of Kundalini Shakti is very different because the sadhak cannot tell it what to do. The sadhak can only request the Shakti to rouse, but its is impossible to control the Shakti energy. The Kundalini Shakti possesses its own intelligence that is infinitely wiser than any human being. The Shakti is the God-force, the Goddess-force. It is intelligent.
The Kundalini Shakti comes from God and returns back to God. The sudden commencement of an increase of energy-flow is often called "awakening" of the Kundalini Shakti. This spiritual power lies hidden as the dormant energy at the base of the spine of human body. But it has potentiality to wake up and rise through the channels upwards towards the brain. These channels are referred to as nadis and are three in number. The left is Ida, the right one is Pingala, and the central one is Sushumna. The right and the left join the central one at the base root of the spine, and they intersect each other at the level of neck. In most of the persons, at the usual level of human or animal consciousness, the energy currents pass through these two channels, the Ida and the Pingala. As Sushumna remains blocked by dormant residue of energy, like debris obstructing a channel, the higher or spiritual consciousness remains non-manifested.
The potentiality of perfection is present within every man and woman in the form of the Kundalini power that is very subtle germ or seed. With mediation and instructions from a spiritual Guru it is possible to activate this latent energy into powerful force that is sure to exceed the limitations of the human mind.
Symptoms of Kundalini raising
Kundalini raising that occurs prior to adequate purification and spiritual awareness is considered premature, producing many different symptoms. In addition to short periods of intensified awareness and states of paradise or enlightenment, there may be times of extreme dreariness or gloominess, unpredictable behaviour, unexplainable illness, loss of or poor memory, feelings of stupefaction with oneself, friends, work or the world in general. If the liver is affected, the skin may take on a yellowish colour, a roughly dirty look, due to the release of negativity; or some areas of the body may take on a reddish or bluish cast. There may be other shadings relating to energy concentrations of different vibrational rates. (Each vibrational rate has its own color.) A person may look old, tired, or ill but a few hours later, looks younger and full of vivacity, or the reverse. Another symptom of premature Kundalini raising is a blackish look to the nails of the big toes due to activated reflexes in the big toes that relate to the pineal gland.
At times there may be a fluttering feeling as the muscles relax and release more energy into the nerve endings. There may be an internal illness or pressure, a wanting to `vomit` out anything in order to eject the extra energy. There may be nosebleeds. Kundalini in its stronger states can tear human tissue. There may also be involuntary movements or shaking of the body; illness may develop from Kundalini cleansings, many times remedied simply by changing the energy patterns. A warning is however given, to consult a doctor when changing the patterns does not help; when a problem appears to be medical, there should not be further hesitation to seek medical assistance. Symptoms are dissimilar in each individual because each person has blocks, or energy concentrations, in diverse areas. It is very difficult to know just how a particular person will react. One may compare the Kundalini, when a huge number of waves are released all at once, to a garden hose turned on full force- if the spine is clear and straight, the force flows through to the top of the head unhampered; if distorted, or bent in some fashion, the free flow is stopped or hampered and the energy goes into the nearest area. A very sway-backed person, for instance, will dump this energy into the belly and solar plexus area, causing passionate emotions. A force that continues over a period of time may result in physical injury, stomach disorders, or even ulcers. Obstruction in the brain causes loss of memory and/or mental distortions.
Due to the diverse symptoms and shortage of information about Kundalini, the blame for improper and excessive release is commonly misplaced. People may feel hypochondriacal with all their different aches and pains. At times they may feel ill but not actually be ill. They may feel they do not have long to live, but at the same time feel perfectly all right. Confusion is rampant when unrehearsed people experience unwarranted Kundalini release. On woman, under a doctor`s care, found she had symptoms of cancer, diabetes and heart problem, as well as other problems, in a two year span; the symptoms later vanished on its own as the purification continued. Today she is a gifted trance reader. Another woman was sick for twenty-one years, during which time she was under the care of doctors, who finally told her they could not find her trouble and there was nothing more they knew to do for her. But when the Kundalini finished its work, she found that spiritual curing energies could flow through her hands. Misunderstandings can slow down the purification process and add years of concern and troubles. Cold chills or hot flashes comparable to those experienced during menopause may come and go, as may psychic gifts. Change of moods, attitudes and dietary, colour and style preferences are common. Some people will experience schizophrenic symptoms as the Kundalini releases energy from strong but unintegrated past-life personalities; it may be that there was little relationship between the soul and the personality and the personality remained separate, to be integrated during another life. Kundalini will seek to cleanse all locked-in memories, whether physical, emotional or mental, whether of traumatic or ecstatic events. Instinctively or through meditations, people can relieve experiences from childhood or past lives. Power trips, mysterious anger, base or distorted sexual fantasies or feelings these are all part of personal demons, secreted away only to be brought to light by the cleansing of the Kundalini. It helps not to be frightened to face the memories sheltered within. When all blocks are released, the Kundalini flows through unrestrained, polishing the cells and thus allowing the prana or divine and universal energy to come into the system in pure, strong form.
Kundalini Yoga is a style of Yoga that concentrates on the awakening of the energy that is found at the base of our spine, which is supposed to be in the form of a coiled snake. For that reason, Kundalini Yoga is said to be the most powerful form of Yoga known today. The goal of Kundalini Yoga is to awaken this "snake" and send it moving up your spine all the way to your brain, which is believed to result in a sublime state of ecstasy and awareness.
Once the Kundalini (the energy in the form of a snake) is awakened, it passes through all the seven Chakras, or centers of consciousness, that are thought to reside in the human body. Each chakra provides a certain power or experience when stimulated.
So how can the Kundalini in your body be awakened? This can be done through:
# the practice of Asanas, Pranayama, and Mantras
# concentration and training of the mind
# the practice of Hatha Yoga, Bhakta Yoga, and Jnana Yoga
# selflessness and intellectual inquiry
# the help of a genuine guru
Of the above mentioned methods, the last one is said to be the most important. Trying to awaken your Kundalini by force and without the aid of a guru can be dangerous. This can result in some symptoms such as mental confusion ,headache or the feeling of something heavy in your head , psychosis ,intense mood swings ,epilepsy or other involuntary body movements ,stress ,depression ,irregular breathing ,immoral behavior .
Therefore, the Kundalini must never be awakened by force. Like a real snake, it can and will strike you if you provoke it. And like a professional snake handler, the guru will guide you on how to tame this snake and deal with it properly.
Awakening your Kundalini should not take a lot of effort. The only things you need are patience, perseverance, and devotion to your practice.

This is so useful for understanding the release of Kundalini energy. I started intensively practicing Kundalini Yoga last year, and I experienced many of the symptoms mentioned, which was often difficult to deal with (I often wondered if I was sick, then my health improved quickly, or I felt very energized one moment, then tired the next.)
While the process is ongoing, I can live with it and stay centered.
I appreciate this post! Thank you |

I also sometimes get what look like cuts in the hands, from the huge amount of energy flowing there. I hope to work with this energy in positive ways when this process has progressed further. |
