Dear Deborah,

thank you for your article.. although I do not agree with margarine (due to chemicals and transfatty acids in it... maybe there is an organic one, and non modified genetically that I do not know off) As prommised I am posting your article on our forum...

I am vegetarian and eat organic butter and eggs etc and exercise a lot, I think balance is key as well as wholesome foods... there is so much toxins in our foods and we need to AVOID those...
I do no take any medication or have any home, not even an aspirin, I get my energy from the source, never ever drink soda or junk food, eat natural wholesome foods and exercise (hiking, yoga, running, swimming etc)... and maintain my weight since highschool...

My secret? Good natural wholesome foods, daily exercise, meditation, being in the nature, orgone, positive attitude towards life and least not last gratitude towards Existance...

Blessings,
Lilly

How I Learned to Lower Cholesterol Through Diet in 1 Hour

a. Cholesterol Truths – Good and Bad
There are actually two types of cholesterol, which is not a known fact for people who misconstrue it as something bad. HDL is the name of the good cholesterol, while the bad one is called LDL. A bloodstream with too much LDL will result in plaques in the arteries. Over time, blood will have a difficult time travelling your arteries because the opening becomes narrow thanks to the amount of bad cholesterol in it. Dietary cholesterol is not the culprit for your having high cholesterol in the blood. Rather, it is copious amounts of saturated fat along with Tran’s fat that is to blame for the tightening of the artery. To keep your cholesterol on the low level, you should eat plenty of unsaturated fats and fibrous foods, as well as exercise often.
b. Cholesterol Numbers and What They Mean
Every adult should have their cholesterol checked at least every 5 years. When you get a cholesterol test, you'll usually get back four different results. Here are the 4 categories and the healthy range you want to be in.
Total Cholesterol - less than 200 mg/dL (5.2 mmol/L)
LDL Cholesterol - less than 100 mg/dL (2.6 mmol/L)
HDL Cholesterol - greater than 40 mg/dL (1.0 mmol/L)
Triglycerides - less than 150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L)
If you are over or under the desired level on any category, it is usually indicative that a diet or exercise change is needed.
c. Protecting Your Heart with Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an important vitamin found in leafy vegetables, nuts, and vegetable oils. It was previously believed that a Vitamin E supplement could reduce the risk of heart disease, but several studies in the last few years have shown that this supplement does little to prevent heart attacks or strokes.
d. Lowering Cholesterol with these Five Foods
1. Oatmeal and Oat Bran: These contain a high amount of soluble fiber, which can lower LDL.
2. Fish: Fish is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids, which lowers LDL and raises HDL.
3. Nuts: Not only are nuts high in fiber, but they contain the healthy fats you need to keep LDL in check.
4. Plant Sterols: This is found in foods like margarine, salad dressing, orange juice, and functional cookies. 2 grams per day will lower your LDL by 10-15%.
5. Soy: This popular meat replacement can lower LDL by up to 3%.
e. Benefits Aplenty with Plant Sterols
Granola bars, Benecol Spread, fat free milk and VitaTops Muffin tops are great food sources that also have great amount of plant sterols in them. If you want to assist your heart, you can do so by eating foods rich in plant sterols and staying away from saturated fat-rich foods. It can’t, however, cancel out a diet loaded with saturated fats. To keep your cholesterol in check mad make sure it stays down, you must exercise often and eat healthy.

Hi all,

Here is a review on Amazon.com of the book "The Coconut Oil Miracle" by Bruce Fife (This used to be me and my wife, how we felt). Now we only fry foods (if we fry) with coconut oil.

This is by far the most informational book I have read concerning my health. I had no idea that coconut oil was so good for you. I was still under the assumption that all saturated fat was bad. I would always pass up my favorite coconut things because I figured that they would be terrible for my health. Then I saw this book on my cousin's coffee table and she was telling me a little about the book. I ordered it the next week. Now I know it's pretty much the opposite of what we've been taught about oils and fats. The things I thought were health are actually harming my insides!

We have started using coconut oil in place of everything except olive oil. My energy has increased so much in just a couple of weeks. I have tried some of the recipes in this book. My favorites so far are the whole wheat biscuits and the smoothies(all of them). I definately recommend this book to EVERYONE!!

And here is part of another review. I'm posting it because this is really really important info that everyone needs to know!!!

The history section is concise and to the point without a lot of ranting. "Tropical oils" and "saturated fats" came under concerted attack by the makers of vegetable oils, who naturally wanted their product used more often. So everyone switched to these "healthier" oils for salads and cooking, from "tropical oils" (including coconut) to soy, canola, and other processed oils, and from butter to Margarine. he debunks the health scares of the time, and explains about how corporate profits led to the shunning of many perfectly healthy fats and oils.

Unrefined organic coconut oil is really really good for your health and energy! Its not a great idea to fry foods even in olive oil but coconut oil is ok on med-low (not high) heat. Lord knows there is so much info and so much disinfo these days, I totally recommend everyone to buy the book. It is worth the little amount of $ for the book.

Fats oxidize and go rancid if left alone however antioxidants in our body countact this process. And imagine your brain (not just bulging stomach) with lots of that! (just kidding, Very Happy ) So also eat your vegetables along with good oils! (commonsense news :> ). A spoonful of uncooked olive oil is good for you! Enjoy and have good health!

George,
thank you for bringing this on. There is a post about coconut miracles, I actually have the book. Coconut also kills parasites and bad bacteria, I use it when (if) I have a cold.

Here is the post:

Oh and other thing. Coconut oil has a shelf life of two years so I've read. We've had it over 6 months at least. So coconut oil does not go rancid like regular oils (which you would then put in your body).

We dont refrigerate it and it definitely never gets any bitter taste that you get from olive oil. Refined coconut oil definitely does not taste anywhere near as good as unrefined :> Flax seed oil gets that bitter taste a lot faster, it goes rancid the quickest even with refrigeration. I have bags of dark brown and light brown flax seeds that I grind up by hand and throw them into salads and smoothies, delicious! You cant get a better source of omega-3!!! Right there on the spot, totally unprocessed! It is said that 70% of our immune function is in our stomach, assuming you have all your omega fatty acids to build a strong healthy stomach, brain, healthy vibrant hair and skin. If I was a woman (which I'm not) I would rub coconut in my hair before going to bed (with a plastic thingie over it-I think they sell it for women that dye their hair) and wake up to shiny beautiful hair! But I'm a guy so I dont really care that much. I use soap to wash my hair and tooth powder as toothpaste (ingredients: salt, baking soda, prickly ash back flavored with peppermind powder). Thats about all I have for personal care products. Oh, I also shave using soap. So soap and tooth powder, thats about it. Funny underarms dont smell either. Yeah I use soap for them also! They used to smell when I used all that 'stuff' but now that I'm au-natural its like kind of a thing of the past. My wife recently discovered that Aloe Vera from the actual plant works SOOO much better than the processed version. So now I really want to have the plant. Shes used it on our child many times just like coconut oil (which was the only thing that really got rid of his diaper rash - after we used desitin for years found coconut oil worked like magic). Aloe vera from the plant reminds of the same thing (something that works so well or something that works like magic). Its so wonderful to know these little things!!!! :>
