Hello,
For my first marathon I ran with a little pack strapped on my waist. I couldnt carry much so had to plan carefully. I took raw dates and made them into a paste and mushed in dulce and raw honey. That was the magic thing (besides gut determination and sheer force) that got me through my first marathon. The dulce replenishes your electrolytes, the salt in your body. So its really important that you also have a cup of water along with eating to help it get absorbed quickly and be available for energy. And you should eat a little something and drink H2O every few miles. I've also recently discovered chia seeds and Lillys feet balancers are good for increasing energy (though I cant tell yet which -or both! - is responsible :> this is new so more testing is needed.) I'm excited about sprouting chia seed, now thats really supposed to really boost your energy! so I just wanted to pass this along as a healthy raw alternative to the (processed) powerbar. Dates and figs are really packed with carbohydrates and healthy sugars that provide quick accessible energy and replesh your bodys glucogen stores. My next marathon is going to be the same combo but I'm going to try sprouting chia seed and adding that in. You can eat on the run, it really is possible! :>
