Usually my Saturdays and/or Sundays are spent updating my anti-virus programs, Spwyare Removal/Blocking programs.

Of course, the best thing is to use Unix, Linux or Macs to avoid these.

I have Pest Petrol and Lavasoft AdAware for actural spyware/adware removal.

I have Spyware Blaster for blocking it.

Even though I run the updates, I still have to customize it to Block sites and CLSIDs. I go to the Symantec Security Response site and check the latest Spyware, Adware, etc.. info. What I do is open up my Spyware Blaster and go to the tools and custom blocking and look on Symantec's Security Risk page for new programs not included in the Spyware Blaster update. I then copy the name of the Spyware/Adware program and then copy all the CLSIDs' associated with it, to keep it from ever coming on my computer. I found a bunch that the update hasn't got yet. The good thing is, that you can right click copy and paste when copying the program name and the CLSID. Easy.

(There's a lot, so I'm still not done with that yet.)

Then I went to the Symantec Removal Tools Page and downloaded all of them, just in case I need for future use.

This system works very well in protecting myself from further Adware/Spyware/Malware attacks. Then I have to do it again on my hubby's computer. Smile

I have...

  • Nortons Anti-virus from Symantec which also can detect some spyware/adware
  • Lavasoft's AdAware SE
  • Pest Patrol
  • Spyware Blaster (I really like this one, but is only a blocker, not a remover)
  • and CCleaner aka Crap Cleaner.
I have Xoftspy and Webroot Spysweeper, but those only scan, as I have to pay for them to remove, and I really don't need to buy them since I have the others, plus I can figure out where to manually remove things that these find. If I have trouble removing, then I just go back to Symantec's Security Response pages, and get the step by step instructions.

Javacool has a forum regarding their products. (Spyware Blaster).

I joined because I still have questions about custom blocking, plus keeping up with the updates, and new products. Their products are all free, by the way.
